Cops: Merokean Struck Man, Left Scene of Incident

A Merrick woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly struck a man with her car and left the scene of the incident at around 3:30 p.m., police said.

According to cops, Rhonda Wander, 49, while backing up her vehicle on Narwood Avenue in Merrick, struck a 48-year-old lanscaper who had been working. Police said Wander fled the scene and failed to report the incident.

The victim obtained her license plate information and gave it to responding officers. Wander was located at her residence, brought back to the scene and placed under arrest, cops added.

The victim suffered pain in his back, right arm and right leg, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

Wander is charged with violating the vehicle and traffic law and leaving the scene of an incident with injury. She was released on an appearance ticket and is due back at First District Court in Hempstead on April 17.
