Merrick Takes Hit from Hurricane Irene
Damage was down in both north and south Merrick.
Although Hurricane Irene was not as bad as was expected, both north and south Merrick sustained damage do to the storm.
South Merrick was hit hardest with flooding and still more than 2,500 homes without power.
The wind was the main source of damage in North Merrick, downing trees and wires, accounting for about 1,900 customers with no power.
