Merrick FD Extinguishes Attic Fire

There were no injuries, fire officials said.

Merrick firefighters extinguished a blaze that started in the attic of a Wynsum Avenue home on Tuesday morning. 

The homeowners were in the dwelling at the time of the blaze, but escaped without injury.

The fire started at the home around 1:28 a.m. Firefighters had to pull down the attic stairs in order to extinguish the fire. 

The home suffered extensive fire and water damage.

Fire departments from North Merrick, Bellmore and Freeport were on the scene.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
