Hurricane Sandy caused damage to the Dakota Design Center, which is located at 1665 Merrick Rd. in Merrick, and the store remains closed.
Wooden boards cover the windows and there are signs from the Town of Hempstead Buildings Department that say "unsafe structure. Do not enter."
A sign in the building from the Dakota Design center says "under renovations due to hurricane", and they urge customers to visit them at Republic Lighting, which is located at 2355 Merrick Rd. in Bellmore.
