Former Dry Cleaning Store Remains Vacant

Tell us what you think should fill the property.

Though there are many open and thriving businesses on Merrick Avenue, there are a number of storefronts that remain vacant on the busy road.

The former Sunshine Dry Cleaners building at 12 Merrick Ave. is one of those empty properties.

Michael, an employee at the nearby Ace of Fades Barbershop, said that he thinks a liquor store should open in the empty space.

"I think it would be good because we don't have a liquor store around here and a laundromat could fit too," he said. "We could also use some new delis around here."

Richard Cincotta, owner of American Coin and Stamp Brokerage, said that a "niche business" should fill the property.

"We have enough nail shops, hair places and food shops," he said. "The business would have to be a niche business that people would have to go out of their way to go to, something that is different. I want to see something open that brings people to this area."
