A Merrick mother and son were arrested just after 9 p.m. Monday for drug possession on Bellmore Avenue, police said.
According to cops, Jamie Burke, 17, and Denise Burke, 49, were pulled over by a First Precinct officer due to a traffic infraction. An investigation revealed that the duo was allegedly in possession of eight envelopes of heroin.

Both are charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Jamie Burke was additionally charged with operating a motor vehicle unlicensed driver and following too closely.
Both defendants are scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
