Claudia Borecky Thanks the Community for its Support

She will continue to help Merrick in any way that she can.

Thank you for your support in my candidacy for town councilwoman. I won some and lost some areas of Merrick – ending with an average of 45 percent.

However, the fifth district covers parts of Seaford, Wantagh, North Bellmore and Freeport and all of Bellmore, Merrick, Barnum Island, Lido Beach and Point Lookout, which makes it virtually impossible to visit every home.

I was lucky to have very talented, hard-working, devoted friends helping me.  I was met with words of encouragement and support wherever I went along the campaign trail. What I heard in the voices of the people of our community, was hope. Hope for something good. Hope for something better. And it was the faith and hope that was put into my race that drove me. We all worked hard because we wanted to see change.

But challenging a sitting incumbent is very difficult. The Town of Hempstead sends out weekly mailings with their names on it. Their signs are everywhere.  It is very difficult to compete with the propaganda that the Town is able to get out with our tax dollars – something I had pledged to cut had I been elected to office.

I had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people. It makes me proud to live in a community that really cares. I listened to your concerns and hopefully, helped some people along the way. I will continue to be accessible and help communities address some very serious issues.

I would be lying to say that I wasn’t disappointed that I lost. I really believed that the people wanted their roads paved. I believed that people wanted affordable public water. I believed that people deserve a vision for a better economy that would bring jobs back to the Town of Hempstead. I really believed that people wanted someone who would be their voice in the community – someone who would work hard toward the betterment of our neighborhoods and go through the budget with a fine-toothed comb to find savings that could go back to the homeowner.

But the truth is, in comparison to the county, state and federal governments, the Town is fiscally sound – even with its waste and abuse in its bloated budget. But the sad truth is that their corrupt way of doing things is accepted as just “business as usual in the Town of Hempstead.”

In the next two years, I ask that Mrs. Cullin not ignore our community’s needs. I ask that she come to the civic meetings in her district at least once during her tenure so that she can hear what issues concern us. I ask that she take her role as our representative seriously and wake up to what is going on in our community. And I ask that she not vote herself and her staff another raise right after this election as she did two years ago.

I’ve knocked on thousands of doors. I’ve stood at supermarkets for months and at train stations for years. I’ve listened to the concerns of others and offered help. I try to live every day to its fullest and do whatever I can to help my fellow man. I don’t ever want to lose sight of the reason why I decided to run for office and I will continue to live my life after this election as I had before.

My campaign office is closed, but feel free to call me on my cell at (516) 972-6988 if I could help you in any way.

I want to again thank you for your encouragement and support. And I’m grateful that as a community leader, I will still be in a position to continue to fight the fights that need fighting.
