Protest Held at US Rep. King's Office Over Proposed Terror Hearings

Pro and anti-King groups stage rallies Tuesday.

A heated protest rally and counter-demonstration took place Tuesday outside the Massapequa office of US Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, over his plans to hold Congressional hearings on homegrown Islamic terrorism. More than a hundred protestors on both sides of the issue gathered outside the Seaford Republican's Park Boulevard office to voice their opinions on King's controversial stance on American Muslims. King, elected to a ninth term in a landslide victory last November, is the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. King, said in a recent radio interview that more than 80 percent of mosques are "controlled by radical imams," citing  the 1999 testimony of a Muslim leader to the state department as evidence. Borecky: Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal Off Long Beach Invites Disaster, Including Terrorist Attack

A LNG facility would not only harm fishermen, but would also mean a new terrorist target just 14 miles off the Long Island shore.

On Earth Day, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced that as long as he is governor, he will not allow any liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities off the New Jersey coast.  This is a huge victory for our oceans.  The governor of an adjacent coastal state has significant veto power over an LNG project, such as Atlantic Sea Island Group's (ASIG) proposal to build a 60-acre island 13.5 miles off the shore of Long Beach to import, store and regassify natural gas.  This project needs the approval of both the New York and New Jersey governors.
