The Giants are 'Life'

Merrick resident joins half the universe in downtown New York to celebrate the Giants second Super Bowl championship in five seasons.

It's a good thing Russ Turrini saw his Giants win another Super Bowl title on Sunday, because he might not live to see another National Football League game. Turrini, who brought his son and daughter to Manhattan to see the Big Blue ticker-tape parade, is traveling to Boston on Wednesday for a business trip. "I'm wearing my Giants jersey," Turrini told the New York Times' The Fifth Down blog.  Turrini, who told the Times "the Giants are our life," locked up a viewing spot on the corner of Broadway and Cedar Street by 7:30 a.m.  For the record, Turrini took a vacation day. The kids skipped school. The math lesson could wait. The only numbers that mattered Tuesday?  Giants 21, Patriots 17, clinching New York's fourth Super Bowl championship.

Post Your Photos: New York Giants Championship

Here's a chance to share your photos of the Giants championship victory.

In case you hadn't heard, the New York Giants won the NFL championship Sunday night after defeating the New England Patriots, 21-17. While New England natives were out rioting [video], Giants fans were busy celebrating, collecting their championship gear and getting ready for Tuesday's parade in New York City. To continue the celebration, we're giving Giants' fans a forum to post their photos from the championship celebration. Have photos from a Super Bowl Party? Heading into the city for the parade? Post all of your photos here!

Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Sports Program has Bright Future Ahead

Continued improvement has lead to more college picks from the district.

Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District (CHSD) sports program has a long-standing tradition of drive and dedication and this attitude has not only given them an impressive past, but an even brighter future leading into 2012 and beyond. “We run a wide range programs for boys and girls sports, ranging from seventh grade to twelfth,” Saul Lerner, director of athletics for the CHSD, said. “We’ve always had success, but we’ve had more success recently. We’ve had County championships in badminton, track, baseball and volleyball.” While it would be easy to take full credit for the CHSD’s increased sporting prowess, Lerner not only heaped praise upon his coaching staff, but on the people who shaped his young athletes’ early, formative years …

Abbene is the captain of the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs hockey team.

Nick Abbene, a student at Calhoun High School, is the captain of the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs, playing all four years on varsity.  The senior is a leader in every sense of the word. Abbene is the definition of what a student athlete should be, in that he is both a wonderful student and tremendous player.  In the Bulldogs' first 10 games, he netted 23 goals and led the team to a 7-2-1 mark and has been a huge part of rebuilding the Bulldogs after they lost 13 seniors to graduation last spring.  Abbene has taught all the new players what it truly means to be a Bulldog and was matched with certain players in a recent contest to assist them in scoring their first varsity goals. Why You're the World's Biggest Giants Fan

Did you name your son Eli, get a helmet tattoo on your neck or paint your RV Big Blue? Tell us your stories of ultimate New York Giants fandom.

Sports is about much more than games. It’s about how we celebrate our teams, obsess over athletes, recite statistics and even party. It can dictate what we wear, where we vacation and even who we marry.  The New York Giants face the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST (Fox-TV) for the right to play in the Super Bowl. So as we count the days to the NFC Championship Game and recount the improbable, plucky run by the Giants, it’s also time to celebrate our fandom. Everyone has that fan-tastic story: Did you name your son Eli (or Tiki), get a helmet tattoo on your neck or paint your RV Big Blue? Maybe you’re a fourth-generation season ticket holder or proposed to your girlfriend at halftime.  Tell us your stories of ultimate New York …
