The CHSD must make about $2 million in cuts to the 2012-13 budget.
The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District (CHSD) is faced with taking a scalpel to their proposed 2012-13 budget, removing $2 million in order to make the tax levy. Continued improvement has lead to more college picks from the district.
Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District (CHSD) sports program has a long-standing tradition of drive and dedication and this attitude has not only given them an impressive past, but an even brighter future leading into 2012 and beyond. “We run a wide range programs for boys and girls sports, ranging from seventh grade to twelfth,” Saul Lerner, director of athletics for the CHSD, said. “We’ve always had success, but we’ve had more success recently. We’ve had County championships in badminton, track, baseball and volleyball.” While it would be easy to take full credit for the CHSD’s increased sporting prowess, Lerner not only heaped praise upon his coaching staff, but on the people who shaped his young athletes’ early, formative years …

While I completely agree that academics is first and the most important part of school, sports is also part of our modern school system. To change it would mean changing the entire school system completely. I just do not see that happening. …   more ›
