<p>The Department of Sanitation is responsible for the disposition of all solid waste generated within the boundaries of the town; it oversees the disposal of an estimated 670,000 tons of garbage each year. What's not recycled is processed in a state-of-the-art waste-to-energy facility, creating both an environmental and economic benefit for all town residents.</p>
<p>Items that can be disposed of at 1600 Merrick Road include appliances, batteries, tires and other homeowner refuse (bring proof of residency). Grass and leaves are collected Wednesdays only.
