Progressive School of Long Island
516-868-6835
This private, nonprofit school for students in K-8 was established in 1985 and has since grown from five students to 125. The school has consistently ranked at the top for state-sponsored tests.
In 2006, the school opened a middle school next door at 1439 Merrick Ave., thereby allowing it to offer classes up to the 8th grade. For the 2009-10 school year, tuition is $7,150 for K-6 and $9,150 for grades 7-8. The school is also supported through donations and volunteers.
Eric and Evangelina Jacobson founded the school, and Eric remains the school's director while Evangelina teaches arts and crafts.
