The Kiwanis Club of Merrick was founded in 1949. The club began with just 25 members and has grown to its current membership of 80. Over the years, the club has held many fundraisers, including pancake breakfasts, holiday gift wrapping and other events.
Community service is the primary goal of the Kiwanis Club of Merrick. It strives to fulfill the Kiwanis vision of changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Through the participation of our members, it has helped to educate children, support the community, and establish itself as the premier service organization in Merrick.
Over the years, its completed numerous community service projects. During the holiday season it raises funds by wrapping presents at Roosevelt Field Mall. It sends children each year to a week of sleep away camp at Kamp Kiwanis. It hosts an annual ball for senior citizens. It collects and distributes food to those in need and also collects school supplies and provides students in need with all the supplies they need to go back to school with. It provides more than $5,000 in scholarships to students in the community each year.
