The Vine Wine Bar, located at 2259 Merrick Rd, is welcoming the public to their second annual fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Thursday, April 18 from 6-8 p.m. in honor of the late Judy Mione.
Mione died in April 2011 after a long battle with breast cancer and was the mother of The Vine Wine Bar owner Lynn Mione.
Judy Mione, a loving single mother of three, was a longtime supporter of St. Jude who requested donations to the hospital in lieu of flowers or other memorials. Her difficulties in coping with her own disease and her abiding love for children combined to fuel her outrage at the thought of children having to deal with serious health problems.
“She always felt that children should not have to go through this,” said Lynn Mione.
A source of unwavering support and inspiration to her daughter in the establishment of The Vine Wine Bar, Judy Mione also was known for her pioneering efforts on behalf of women on Wall Street, the financial district of New York City. She was one of a small group of women spearheading a legal challenge regarding discrimination and sexual harassment in their industry. She was honored by the National Organization for Women (NOW) as a Woman of Courage in 1997.
