New Trees Planted at Lakeside School, Cammans Pond

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 2162, in cooperation with the Lakeside PTA Go Green Committee, donated trees to Norman J. Levy Lakeside Elementary School and Cammans Pond Park Friday.

The trees were installed by Merokean Mike Izzo and his crew from Mike and Marco’s Design & Planting. Legis. David Denenberg, D-Merrick, and Assemblyman David McDonough, R-Merrick, were on hand representing Nassau County, and Councilwoman Angie Cullin represented the Town of Hempstead. Joe Baker, the president of South Merrick Civic Association, was on hand as well.

“I’m so glad glad to have new flowering trees for spring,” Merrick Superintendent Dr. Dominick Palma said. “They’re truly going to be beautiful.”

Palma also said that this project will give students something positive to reflect on years down the line when they return to Lakeside.

“It’s great that they can come back here 10 years from now and tell their friends that they were responsible for the planting of that tree,” Palma added. “It really makes a connection to their elementary school that will live with them forever.”

“The girl scouts have exhibited what it means to be a part of the community and to do good jobs,” McDonough added. “I salute them for what them for the planting of the trees and for the fact that they’re becoming good community citizens.”

“It’s very important to keep Merrick looking beautiful,” Izzo said. “We try our best to do all we can for Merrick.”
