Eighth Annual Robbie's Run Raises Close to $47K

A Merokean finished with the best time as well in the 5K, which headlined the event.

The eighth annual Robbie's Run raised almost $47,000 for the Robbie Levine Foundation, which was started in memory of 9-year-old Robbie who died in 2005 of sudden cardiac arrest.

Robbie’s Run brought together 1,650 participants in a 5K road race and family festival to raise awareness of sudden cardiac death and money to buy defibrillators for youth sports fields to save lives.

"The weather was beautiful, the entertainment was great, kids looked like they had a good time, food was plentiful and volunteers and supporters were all there helping in addition to the runners, making the total in attendance well over 2,000 people," Jill Levine told Patch.

The Merrick Little League also surprised the Levines by announcing that Lakeside 3 Field has been renamed the Forever 9 Field.

"We want to thank the Merrick community for their ongoing support of our foundation and our family, and for allowing us to continue raising money in Robbie's name to help save lives," Levine added.

"We have been going for five years and it has proven to be a wonderful family day," Christine McGlaughlin wrote on Bellmore Patch's Facebook page. "We don't know the Levines personally but we are so impressed and inspired by their strength to turn their tragedy into something that helps so many potentially save lives."

"Besides having a great time cheering on my husband, three sons and friends, the day was topped off with our youngest winning first place in his division," she added. "I strongly suggest this event to everyone next year!"

Sean Mahon of Merrick ran the fastest time for the 5K, finishing at 16:29. He was 32 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
