Merrick LIRR Permit Program on Hold

Those looking forward to the Long Island Rail Road's Parking Permit Program that was announced for the Merrick station are going to need to wait longer due to Hurricane Sandy.

According to Susan Trenkly-Pokaskly, a Hempstead Town spokeswoman, there's no timeline for the program, which has already been implemented in Bellmore.

In Bellmore, the initiative designates 227 commuter-parking spaces to Town of Hempstead residents near the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Centre Avenue in Bellmore. For use of the new spots. Town of Hempstead Residents can obtain permits at Hempstead Town Hall. The cost for a permit is $3 per year.

Residents must bring proof of residency when purchasing permits. Payments may be made by cash or check (payable to the Town of Hempstead). Parking permits do not guarantee a parking space; however, they do ensure that parking in permit stalls is reserved exclusively for Hempstead Town residents.
