Jones Beach BandShell Ready to Rock in 2013

Free shows scheduled at facility on Jones Beach Boardwalk nearly each night of the summer.

Written by Andrew Coen

A summer tradition of free concerts on the Jones Beach Boardwalk kicked off this past weekend.

The first 2013 Jones Beach Boardwalk Bandshell show featured45rpm, a 1970s pop tribute band who took the stage at the nearby Wantagh venue Saturday evening.

Musical performances are now scheduled nearly every night through August starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Bandshell, which is located near Jones Beach Parking Field 4. The themes for different nights of the week include:

  • Latin Sundays
  • Kid Night Tuesdays
  • All That Dance Wednesdays
  • Long Island James Thursdays
  • Tribute Fridays
  • Greatest Hits Saturdays

Repairs to the Jones Beach Boardwalk Bandshell were needed after flood damage the facility suffered during Hurricane Sandy last fall. Bleacher seats are not expected to be completed for a few weeks so concertgoers are urged to bring lawn chairs to shows, according to organizers.
