Kennedy Football Endures Tough Loss to Wantagh

Cougars defeated by Warriors 51-6 on Saturday evening.

Kennedy football suffered a brutal 51-6 loss to Wantagh Saturday on homecoming day at Wantagh High School.

Right from the kickoff it was Wantagh (5-1) in full control of its offense. Michael Games started the game with a fumble recovery, which led to Wantagh's first points by running back Mike Scully on a four-yard touchdown run. Scully ended up having nine rushing attempts for 111 yards and three touchdowns on the night for the Warriors.

"We pushed well on the line," Wantagh head coach Keith Sachs said. " Our two starting backs had a huge day."

Wantagh didn't stop there as it kept Kennedy (1-5) out of its offensive zone for majority of the first half. Wantagh quickly scored three more touchdowns to make the score 26-0 at halftime.

The second half of the game was the same story for Wantagh as the Warriors scored three more touchdowns. Running back Matt Balzano had 128 yards and a touchdown on five carries, all in the second half. Michael Games had an interception and fumble recovery and both Ryan Walsh and Joe Brasile added six tackles.

"It was a nice team win on homecoming," Sachs said. "Everybody got to touch the ball."

Kennedy played hard throughout the game but just couldn't get its offense up and running. The Cougars avoided the shutout in the third quarter with a 23-yard touchdown run by senior Joey Karo.

"Not a result we wanted," Kennedy head coach Nick Martone said. "We were still trying to make plays and didn't give up."

The Cougars will look to turn things around at their own homecoming game Saturday against Great Neck South at 1:30 p.m.
