Calhoun Basketball Eliminated from Playoffs

The Calhoun Boys Basketball team was eliminated from the AA playoffs Saturday after falling in a nail biter to Freeport, 50-46.

The Colts (12-6, 10-4) trailed by one after the first quarter and eight at the half, but they battled back to match Freeport's (12-6, 8-5) 13 points in the third period. Despite outscoring the Red Devils 14-10 in the final quarter, the Calhoun comeback fell four points short.

Tommy Murphy led the way for Calhoun with 14 points, and Kyle McGinley was right behind him with 13. Brian Downey had 11, and Tom Joannou had eight. Wrapping up the scoring for the Colts was Eric Ohlendorf with three and Dean Brownworth with one point.

For Freeport, after a quiet first half, Kyhiem Chaplin scored 14 of his team-high 19 in the second half. Davelle Hooks had 14, and Nino Rodriguez had nine to lead the Red Devils.
