Chocolate Works Opens in Bellmore-Merrick

The confectionary emporium opened its doors to the community on Sunday.

Calling all candy lovers.

Chocolate Works  opened at 2350 Merrick Road in Bellmore on Sunday.

On a recent day, customers walked around the confectionary emporium eying an array of truffles, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate lollipops, hard candy and peanut butter cups.

Owners Donna Stein and Rachel Levenberg said that they are enthralled to be open.

"It's so wonderful," Levenberg said. "We worked so hard and it's great that people are coming in and enjoying it already."

Stein agreed.

"It feels amazing that after so many months of planning and hard work that we're finally open," she said.

The franchise was started by the Whaley family after 40 years of success in the chocolate business.

Chocolate Works of Bellmore-Merrick will offer an array of chocolates--all imported from Belguim, gift items, party favors, baskets and platters. The business will also host parties for both adults and children, as well as workshops.

The business opened at a time when Merrick Road is being heavily revitalized.

In the coming weeks, more new businesses will be opening along the busy roadway including Panera Bread, Vanilla Sky,  Danny's Chinese KitchenFor Goodness Steaks and Dessert City Cafe.

One day after the business opened, Martha Verdi of the Bellmore Chamber came in to pick up her "chocolate candy pizza," a sweet concoction of chocolate covered pretzels drowned in candy toppings.

"I love this place and  I think that it will be a great asset to the Chamber of Commerce to show everybody how sweet we are," she said.

Stein said that she loves the feedback that she has gotten from the community after being open two days.

"The excitement in the air is infectious," she said.
