Marion Blane, the president of the BOE, announced that multiple avenues of input were being sought in the quest to find a successor to Dr. Henry Kiernan, who recently announced he’d be retiring at the end of the current school year.

“The Board of Education approves a consultant agreement concerning the process of selecting a new Superintendent of Schools,” Blane said. “There will also be a public meeting to gather feedback from the members of the community regarding the selection of our next Superintendent, and those dates will be published shortly in the local papers.”

If the Board hires someone in this position for more than $185,000 a year, their should be some sought of backlash. Here is the perfect opportunity to save tax money and NOT set a standard we can ill afford, in this economy. I am quite certain there are more than qualified individuals out there looking for a position that would accept.

Agreed...How 'bout starting with getting rid of 'dead-wood' teachers? And maybe they can find someone who will catch our district up with the Jones'...And how about some nice artificial turf fields for our high schools so our athletes don't have to risk serious injury on the jokes they call 'athletic fields'?

In addition, fellow taxpayers lest we not forget even our governor stated that " the cap of 175k for a Superitendent is more than adequate. Which I fully agree with. While we are at it we should take the opportunity to not renew ANY contracts of any administrators that are up this year in the North Bellmore School District. And I donot think this is the economy to be worried about Turf Fields. No HIGHER TAXES!

If tax dollars weren't WASTED on bloated staffings, on lousy teachers and OVERPAID administrators, we would have enough money for IMPROVED athletic facilities. Sports, in general, gives our kids a great opportunity to learn about competition, comradere while keeping them busy. It also keeps many kids OFF THE COUCH!

Why not hire/promote one of the 4 Superintendents from the elementary school systems (Bellmore, Merrick, North Bellmore, or North Merrick)? At the same time, consolidate the 4 separate elementary districts into a Bellmore-Merrick Central Elementary School District and eliminate 3 of the Boards and 3 of the sets of administrators. It has roughly the same number of students as the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD, and it should be set up the same way. How difficult could it be? I don't know why nobody ever suggests the elementary school consolidation as a way to save us money!!!

Oh wait, nevermind. The Superintendents and Boards would never voluntarily give up control of their Fiefdoms just so the taxpayers could save money.

The Superintendents from the other schools are OVERPAID! If the Board does the right thing they will hire for under 180K............... If they drop the ball VOTE them out!
