Man Falls Off Roof, Dies at Camp Avenue School

At Tuesday's North Merrick Board of Education meeting, Superintendent David Feller announced that a contractor fell off the roof at Camp Avenue School and died on Nov. 29.

According to a letter that was sent home to parents, 911 was immediately notified when he fell around 5 p.m.

An investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the accident. Fortunately, no one else was injured, Feller said. There were no eyewitnesses at the moment of the accident.

There was a small number of children in the building at that time in our childcare program and the Director has advised Feller that the children did not witness or even know of the incident while at school.

"The childcare staff did a great job of keeping all of the children away from the back of the school as soon as they were notified by our staff," Feller said. "Our crew along with the local fire department did a thorough clean up of the immediate area."
