Kennedy High School PTA Preps for School Year

A look at what's going on at the Bellmore-based high school.

The Kennedy High School PTA is looking forward to the new 2012-13 school year and extends a warm welcome to students, parents, faculty and staff.

The PTA plays an active role in students’ years in high school, bringing together parents and teachers to use their joint energies and power to advocate for improving the health and welfare of our students.

“We look forward to continuing to increase parent involvement and encourage positive parent/teacher relationships during this school year,” PTA Co-President Elaine Coluccio and Stace Thea said. “John F. Kennedy High School has always fostered a positive working environment among parents, teachers and administrators, and the PTA is proud that our  shared efforts and decision-making help us all to strengthen our goal of achieving the best education for our children."

Working closely with the school’s administrators, teachers and support staff, the PTA provides various activities that benefit both students and the community. PTA programs held throughout the year include Reflections, Defensive Driving, Community Service Fair, Senior Fashion Show and post-prom breakfast. In addition, each graduating senior receives a gift from the PTA as a memento of their high school experience. The PTA also makes monetary awards available to those students who qualify (PTA membership required).

“This year we will be increasing our scholarships to graduating seniors,” Coluccio said.

The Kennedy High School PTA urges all parents to participate in its fundraisers throughout the year, so the organization can continue to give back to all the students at the school.  A major fundraising effort is the sale of school merchandise and clothing, which is available all year long and at events like Back-To-School Night.

“We urge everyone to support our PTA by purchasing Kennedy High School clothing and wearing it proudly,” Thea said.

The PTA’s biggest fundraiser is membership, at a cost of $15 per family for the year. Parents may send their membership check of $15 per family, payable to John F. Kennedy PTA, to school with their child. Please include the following information with your check: parent/guardian name, email address and phone number and, for each child, student name, grade, first period room number and first period teacher name.

Meetings are held monthly on Mondays at 7 pm. Meetings for the 2012-13 school year are scheduled for: Sept. 24,  Oct. 29, Nov. 26, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 18. The April meeting (date to be announced) will be a discussion of the school budget.
