HANC Plainview's Fifth Grade Class Win Marcellino's Earth Day Poster Contest

Fifth graders from Hebrew Academy of Nassau County in Plainview were the winners of Sen. Carl Marcellino's Earth Day 2014 poster contest.

The students – who reside in Plainview, Syosset, Merrick and North Bellmore – worked together to create a poster that demonstrates their commitment to keeping our earth healthy from generation to generation. All year the students collected bottles. They took weekly walks around the corner to Fairway to recycle them. Proceeds from the recycling were then donated to charities that help needy children.

"I am so proud of my students' commitment to help the needy," said Mrs. Fleishman, HANC's fifth grade teacher. "Neither snow nor cold weather stopped our trips or their enthusiasm. As a result we raised $110."

The poster displays the program as well as the students knowledge of technology. It is currently on display on the 5th Senatorial District's web site.
