Grant Secured by Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Lowers Cost of Bond

Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg has recently procured a grant of $250,000 for the district's proposed capital project.

Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg has recently procured a grant of $250,000 for the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District's proposed capital project. 

The grant will be used towards funding the cost of the three high school synthetic turf fields.

“The district is extremely thankful to Legislator Denenberg for working diligently to secure this important grant for our schools,” Superintendent of Schools John DeTommaso said. “These funds will play a vital role in offsetting costs in our proposed capital project, benefiting both our local residents and students.”

The fields they represent 12.6 percent of the bond’s total cost.

Through the proposed project, buildings in the district would receive upgrades to electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. There will also be upgrades to security and the schools science rooms and athletic fields. 

The total cost of the proposed project is $49.6 million with $26.894 million being funded through New York State building aid. 

The proposed project, which will be completed in three to four years, will cost the average household $104 annually or $8.67 a month.

On Oct. 7, the Board of Education will adopt a resolution to present to voters. Dec. 2 is the anticipated day to vote.
