CHSD Officials Speak of Willingness to Secure Funds For Synthetic Turf

The mission to install synthetic turf has been a hot topic for years.

School officials of the  Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District spoke of the future board's willingness to secure funds to install synthetic fields on the district's three high schools at a board meeting on Wednesday, according to an article in Merrick Life.

Unable to pay for synthetic turf out of the capital projects fund, the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD would have to put up a bond referendum in order to install three turf fields for the district. This, in turn, would raise taxes for the community.

Many parents, however, are for the turfs being installed.

Ellen Brach, created a Facebook page for Bellmore-Merrick parents and students in favor of turf fields.

"Let's put aside the past animosities, and the cycle of neglect and failure and move on a new journey together. It's time for turf!," she said.

What are your thoughts? Are you for the installation of synthetic turfs?
