Back to School Message from Dr. Henry Kiernan

The CHSD superintendent is ready to kick off the 2012-13 school year.

Dear Members of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Community:

As we begin this new school year, the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD is committed to providing the best educational experience necessary to meet the needs of our students, to continue preparing them for the 21st century demands, and to be college and career ready.

Student achievement remains our highest priority with 98 percent of our 2012 graduating class receiving Regents Diplomas. Our accomplishments in 2011-2012 include four National Merit Finalists, five Intel Semifinalists, first and second place winners at the Virtual Enterprise Competition, six All-State NYSSMA students and two NCTE Achievement in Writing Awards.

The District has also excelled in athletics capturing individual Nassau County championship awards in Boys Badminton, Swimming, and Wrestling, Long Island team championship in Baseball, and the National Dance Alliance Championship for Kickline. We are proud of our many accomplishments not only in academics and athletics but also in a wide variety of activities and the arts.

We have continued our technological initiatives by launching the Parent Portal this past year giving prompt and easy on-line access to student progress reports and report cards. The District and local schools also have new, updated web-pages.

The District looks forward to introducing the Big History Project which is funded by the Gates Foundation. This curriculum will integrate science, geography, and history and will seek to bring our shared history to life for high school students. We are also taking the necessary steps to implement a pre-med program which will be available for the 2013-2014 school year.

Capital improvement projects included the re-surfacing of the tracks at Merrick Avenue Middle School, Grand Avenue Middle School and Kennedy High School. The re-surfacing of the roofs at Mepham High School, Calhoun High School, and Grand Avenue Middle School has also been completed.

We look forward to working collaboratively with parents, students, and the community to ensure the success of our curriculum, programs, and activities and optimizing learning opportunities for students. I am confident that by working together we will continue to create the type of supportive, caring environment that every student needs to reach personal excellence.

I wish you a successful 2012-2013 school year.

The School board is a bunch of morons if they want to remove this designation! There were 0 problemsRead More like this when Malucci was in office, this new superintendent is a waste of space, money, and cares more about his own paycheck then our kids!
