Merrick Schools Announces Superintendent Choice

The new superintendent will be formally introduced at the next school board meeting.

The Merrick School Board has announced its pick for the new superintendent of schools.

The board has appointed Dr. Dominick Palma as the new superintendent of schools, effective July 1.

Palma will come to Merrick from West Babylon School District, where he worked as the assistant superintendent for curriculum and student services. He also previously worked in the South Huntington School District as a psychologist and served as director of student services in the Valley Stream Central High School District.

He attained his Bachelor's Degree in psychology from the University of Rochester, his professional diploma in school district administration from Dowling College and his PhD in school and clinical psychology from Hofstra University.

Palma will replace current superintendent, Dr. Rainer Melucci, who announced his retirement in December.
