LION Celebrates Cuomo Signing Puppy Mill Law

The governor signed a bill that allows municipalities to regulate puppy mills.

Members of Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION)are celebrating a big victory.

On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed A.740-A/S.3753-A, a bill that allows municipalities to regulate puppy mills and local pet dealers.

"We rallied, we wrote, we called, and we even asked the governor to sign in person," LION President John Di Leonardo said. " Now that he has signed, all our efforts are rewarded."

In September, LION held a rally in front of Merrick Furs to protest the opening of its new season.

Di Leonardo thanked Cuomo and everyone who stood behind LION and its cause.

"Now that the governor has signed this bill into law, we can begin passing stronger laws here on Long Island to both protect the public and animals sold in stores," he said. "Our hands are no longer tied.”
