Fuschillo to Resign from State Senate

The senator will be taking on a private-sector job.

Senator Charles Fuschillo, R-Merrick, announced on Tuesday that he will be leaving the New York State Senate.

In a statement he wrote:

“Tomorrow, we begin a new year which brings with it new beginnings, new opportunities, and new challenges. With that in mind, I have decided that it is time to begin a new chapter in my life and leave the New York State Senate effective 11:59 p.m. tonight."

Fuschillo said that starting in January he will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

"This is a new and exciting opportunity which will allow me to continue to help improve the lives of others while at the same time enabling me to spend more time with my family," he said.

The Merrick resident served individuals of the  8th Senate District for close 16 years.

"Serving in the Senate is both an honor and privilege which I will always cherish and be forever grateful," he said. "I thank everyone in the community for giving me that privilege and wish each of you the very best in the future.”

I am so sorry to see him go. One of the few politicians who really rolled up his sleeves and helped the people of Merrick in so many ways. I brought a few issues to his attention, and he was very helpful and followed up. While I wish him well, I'm saddened that we are losing an asset to this community.

This is great news for the 8th district, lets get a Senator that will FIGHT hard for the Taxpayers. All his work was smoke and Mirriors. He never fought hard to stop LIPA and his buddy Kessal from soaking the ratepayers, and standing up for the Student Athletes of Bellmore Merrick. Approving the State Education Commissioner and Common Core. Being a Senator is a part time job, they work for 6 months and three days a week, why would some leave this cake job for over $100 thousand a year?
