Candidates Face Off for Merrick Library Trustee Position

Head down to vote for your candidate on Wednesday.

On April 6, Robert "Bob" Young will face off against Laura Cody for a spot on the board of trustees at the Merrick Library. Before you head to the polls, get to know the candidates and what they bring to the table.

Laura Cody has announced that she will be seeking a third term on the Merrick Library Board of Trustees. A resident of Merrick for the past 32 years, Cody was active in the PTA and served as the PTA co-president. She has also been active in her church, boy scouts and a committee member in the Merrick School system. Cody feels that the library is an integral part of the community and hopes to be able to continue to serve the community through the library.

Robert Young has been a Merrick resident for 20 years and boasts government experience as well as service to the community on his resume. According to Young, he has been the Nassau County planning commissioner, on the Nassau County taskforce on unprotected woodland as well as the Nassau County Taskforce on encroachments. Young also said that he was key in organizing a movement to save the Meadowbrook Woodlands and was involved in the Merrick based movement that forced the closing and repowering of Freeport Power Plant #2.
