Behrens to Take Seat on N. Merrick Library Board

Cell tower presentation delayed until next month.

Barbara Behrens will be sworn into a seat on the North Merrick Library's Board of Trustees Tuesday night.

Behrens defeated Matt Kuschner in April to claim the spot on the five-member board. Former trustee George Brucia did not run for re-election to a new five-year term.

Behrens, a consultant in education communications and marketing, joins the board amidst discussion of a controversial proposal to place a 50-foot cell tower on the library grounds.

Tom Erwin, of T-Mobile, the company seeking approval from the board to lease property for the cell tower in the form of a flag pole, had been expected to attend Tuesday night's board meeting, but his appearance has been pushed back.

A safety report that Erwin wants to present to the board will not be ready in time for Tuesday's meeting, library director Tom Witt told Patch.

Erwin is now expected to make his presentation at the August 17 board meeting.
