Fire officials reported wires down in Merrick Thursday morning.
According to Ron Luparello, the Merrick Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene of wires down and burning on the front yard of a house at the corner of Frankel Boulevard and Arthur Avenue.
Like Merrick Patch on Facebook by clicking here.The downed wires caused power outages in South Merrick since 4 a.m. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) was immediately notified to respond but the latest update from LIPA is that a repair crew could be there by 8:30 a.m. The volunteer firefighters remained at the scene in case the fire spreads to the house.
According to the LIPA Storm Center Outage Map, 224 customers remain powerless in Merrick. Those south of Sunrise Highway should expect power to return around 11:30 a.m., while those in North Merrick may have to wait until 1 p.m., according to the latest estimations.
