Vandals Leave Levy Lakeside School with Four Broken Windows

According to police, rocks were thrown at the windows.

A group of rowdy youths left Levy Lakeside School with four broken windows, Nassau County Police reported.

According to police, at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, a group of unknown youths were gathered on the property of the schools. Rocks were thrown and four large windows in the rear of the school were damaged.

Joe Baker, president of the South Merrick Community Civic Association, was also present at the scene.

"A neighbor and I called the police and reported to them that the crowd was loud and using profane language," Baker said. "Evidence of alcohol containers and broken glass was strewn all over the children's playground."

While police were not able to confirm the amount of youths gathered at the location, Baker estimated that it was probably 30 to 40.

Baker added that he spoke to a school custodian, who estimated that the damage would cost the district about $1,000.
