Taxi Driver Robbed at Knifepoint in Merrick

Suspect was wearing a mask and gloves and pulled a knife on the victim.

A taxi driver was held a knifepoint and robbed in Merrick on Tuesday.

At about 11:20 p.m., detectives reported that the victim was dispatched to Madison Avenue and Bedford Avenue to pick up a fare.

Upon his arrival, detectives said, a male subject entered the cab who then asked him to stop the cab after driving one block. The subject put a knife to the victim’s throat and demanded his cell phone and money. According to police, it was at this time that the victim realized the subject was wearing a mask and gloves. The victim then handed over his cell phone and cash and the subject fled on foot northbound on Madison Ave.

The victim sustained a small laceration to his neck, but refused medical treatment.

The subject is described as a male white, 30 to 35 years of age, wearing a black ski mask, black gloves and black clothing. No further description is available.
