Suspect in Merrick Break-In Arrested

Bellmore man charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief.

Nassau County police are reporting that a Bellmore man has been arrested in connection with a burglary that took place in Merrick on Saturday, July 30.

According to Seventh Squad detectives, Joseph Horan, 20, of Bellmore, drove with approximately 20 teenage boys to a residence located on Frankel Boulevard in Merrick. Horan then allegedly broke down the front door of the house, intending to assault a male victim, 17, living inside.

The victim's father, armed with a baseball bat, confronted Horan and demanded he leave the residence, at which point Horan ran out of the house and fled in a waiting car with the other youths, police said.

No one was reported to have been injured.

Seventh Precinct detectives arrested Horan on Sunday at the Seventh Precinct. He is being charged with burglary in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the third degree.

Horan will be arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
