Two New York State Police officers saved the life of a Merrick man after he collapsed on the Wantagh Parkway Bike Path Thursday, police said.
According to New York State Police, Troop L's headquarters in Farmingdale received a call at 7:55 a.m. Thursday regarding man who collapsed on the Wantagh Parkway Bike Path near the draw bridge.
Trooper Thomas Wallace responded applied his Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device to the victim, Martin Gottlieb, 60, of Merrick, who was not breathing, police said.
With the assistance of Trooper David Augugliaro, who was performing CPR, Gottlieb regained his pulse and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC).
Gottlieb was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at NUMC in critical condition, but he has since been upgraded to satisfactory condition, and he is no longer in the ICU, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
