Police: Teen Drives Around Accident Scene, Arrested for DWI

A Hicksville teen was arrested for driving while intoxicated late Monday night after he allegedly drove around a police roadblock on the Southern State Parkway, State Police said.
Police were investigating an accident on the eastbound side of the Southern State near the Merrick Avenue exit at 11:25 p.m., when Steven Vandeyar, 19, drove his maroon Audi onto the shoulder and past a state trooper, who had stopped traffic, police said.
The trooper pulled Vandeyar over after a short pursuit, police said. Vandeyar was arrested for DWI after a breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .13 percent, police said.

Vandeyar is also charged with driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and numerous other traffic violations, police said. All charges are returnable in First District Court in Hempstead.
