Police: Merrick Bank Robbed

Chase Bank on Merrick Avenue robbed Monday morning, police say.

A man robbed a Merrick bank Monday morning, police said.

According to police, the man entered the Chase Bank located at 2122 Merrick Avenue at 10:20 a.m. and approached a female teller and handed her a note demanding cash.  

The robber threatened the use of a gun in the demand note, but no weapon was displayed, police said.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the robber fled on food in an unknown direction, police said. 

There were seven employees and one customer in the bank at the time of the robbery and no injuries were reported, police said.

The robber was described as black, 5-foot-11, with a dark complexion and medium build. He wearing a black long haired wig, baseball cap with a star and a maroon hooded sweatshirt at the time of the robbery, police said. 

Police are asking anyone with information on the robbery to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.

A bank in Mineola was also robbed Monday.
