Nearby: Man Dies After Being Struck by Car

The victim was hit while crossing a street in Freeport.

A man died on Wednesday morning after he was hit by a car in Freeport, police said.

The incident occurred at 1:10 a.m.

According to authorities, a 73-year-old man was driving on Atlantic Avenue in Freeport when he struck the victim that was crossing the street.

The victim was taken to South Nassau Community Hospital were he was pronounced dead. 

Detectives have not reported any criminality. The vehicle was impounded for a safety and brake inspections and the incident is still under investigation.
