Merrick Man Faces Assault Charge in Road Rage Incident

A road rage incident on the Southern State Parkway has led to an assault charge for a Merrick man and left a West Sayville man with injuries to his face and leg.

State police say Merrick resident Rodney Selman, 42, and Robert Reed, 49, of West Sayville, were driving eastbound Friday night about 8:48 p.m., west of Exit 36 in Babylon, when they were involved in a rear-end collision. 

After the crash the two men pulled to the side of the road and became involved in a physical altercation. 

During the fight police said Selman hit and threw Reed to the ground causing injuries to his face and leg. Reed was treated for his injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Selman was arrested and is charged with assault in the third degree, according to state police.
