Merrick and North Merrick firefighters aided 12 other departments in battling a fire in Roosevelt that burned for over seven hours, according to responders.
The blaze broke out in a garage in Roosevelt just after 12 p.m. Wednesday, according to Tim Asbell. It quickly grew and three alarms sounded for help, he said.
The fire was finally declared extinguished after seven hours, said Asbell, after the work of 13 departments and several hazmat crews.
Hazmat, which works in oil, gas, propane, acetylene, and more, were called in to tackle substances that fueled the fire.
Merrick and North Merrick Fire Departments joined East Meadow, Merrick, North Merrick, Roosevelt, Freeport, Baldwin, North Bellmore, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Uniondale, Hempstead, East Meadow, West Hempstead, and Elmont departments in the response.
