Merrick FD Responds to Two Sunday Crashes

The Merrick Fire Department was called for two crashes in Merrick on Sunday.

According to Merrick Fire Department officials, the first collision took place at 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Hewlett Avenue. No injuries were reported, but two eastbound lanes on Sunrise Highway were blocked until the vehicles were removed and the roadway was cleaned up.

At 11:35 p.m., a vehicle traveling westbound on Merrick Road struck a utility pole in front of Taco Bell. Merrick firefighters and EMT's removed the driver who was transported by Merrick FD ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center.

There was no update provided on the driver's condition.
