Merrick Avenue Students Approached by Stranger

Two students were followed by a green four-door sedan while they walked home from Merrick Avenue Middle School Tuesday, according to Principal Meador Pratt.

In an email to parents, Pratt said the students were at the corner of Camp Avenue and Richard Avenue at 3:50 p.m. when the driver of the sedan attempted to get the students to come over to his car.

According to Pratt, the driver appeared to be a Hispanic male in his thirties.

"The students walked away from the car and contacted an adult family member to pick them up," Pratt said. "Subsequently, a police report was made."

On April 10, a similar incident was reported with a student that was followed by a green four-door sedan while walking to school on Grand Avenue Middle School.

"Please take a moment to emphasize the importance of safe practices with your child (walking in groups, being aware of their surroundings, etc.)," Pratt added.
