Man Dies After Merrick Crash

Police identified the victim as John Dabney, 25, of Freeport.

A Freeport man died after a car crash in Merrick on Saturday, police said.

According to authorities, John Dabney, 25, was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima westbound on Sunrise Highway at Lansdowne Avenue around 4:50 a.m. when he struck the guard rail causing the vehicle to overturn.

He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he was pronounced dead, police said.  

The cause of the crash was not revealed by cops.
