Freeport Man Arrested For Attempted Robbery in Merrick

Elizar Rodas, 21, allegedly tried to take an iPod Touch and a cell phone from a women and her child.

A Freeport man was arrested for an alleged attempted robbery in Merrick on Thursday, police said. 

According to police, a 46-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter were walking on North Hewlett Avenue when they were approached by Elizar Rodas, 21 who was on a bicycle.

Rodas attempted to take an iPod Touch from the child's hand, but she was able to retain control of it. He then attempted to take the mother's cell phone, but was unsuccessful, police said. 

Rodas fled the scene and the victims called police.

Upon police arrival a notification was broadcast and assisting units located Rodas riding his bicycle in the vicinity of  Merrick Avenue and placed him under arrest without incident.

Rodas was charged with two counts of third-degree attempted robbery.
