Five Injured in Merrick Crash

Five people were injured after a car allegedly ran a stop sign and caused a three-car crash in North Merrick, officials said.

According to James Rogers, the first assistant chief of the North Merrick Fire Department, emergency personnel was called to the area near Carroll Avenue and Schermerhorn Street at approximately 6:15 p.m. He said that five people in a car were traveling on Carroll Avenue and allegedly went through a stop sign and hit one vehicle. After that impact, their car then hit a parked car, Rogers said.

“We had a total of five people that were hurt,” Rogers said.

Two ambulances from North Merrick Fire Department, and another from the Merrick Fire Department, along with police ambulances responded to aid in the transport of the five injured to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

One person was treated as a trauma, Rogers said, and NUMC was notified that they were being brought in to be examined by the hospital’s trauma team. The other four injuries were described as “non-life threatening”.

A heavy rescue truck and a engine company truck from the North Merrick Fire Department also responded to the scene, as well as Nassau County Police’s Emergency Services Unit.
