Fire Breaks Out at TOH Sanitation Facility

A fire broke out at the Town of Hempstead Sanitation Facility at 6:40 a.m. Sunday.

Sources told Patch that the flames were contained to the transfer station. The Merrick Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, which took about an hour. 

Responders had to use heavy machinery to remove debris to get to the base of the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown, and no injuries were reported.

Calls to the Town of Hempstead regarding what was damaged were not immediately returned.
