Cops: Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Shooting Woman During Argument

Woman struck in hands, head, and body by one shot, cops said.

A Long Beach man is charged with attempted murder after Nassau County Police say he shot a woman with a shotgun Sunday night.

Cops said Diquan Booker, 26, was at a home on William Street in North Merrick when he got into an argument with a 26-year-old woman. The argument escalated and Booker allegedly pulled out a shotgun and pointed it at the woman, police said. She grabbed the barrel of the gun and Booker fired one shot, which struck the victim in both her hands, forehead and upper body at 9:10 p.m. cops said.

The woman, who was not identified by police, was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors performed surgery, cops said. She was listed in stable condition.

Booker was taken into custody at the scene by responding officers, police said. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder and three counts of first-degree contempt. He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
